A machine can replicate a pattern, but only a human hand can imbue it with a soul.
The Heritage of the Guilds
The Alchemy of Bone and Wood
Journey into the heart of a 400-year-old craft. We follow the strict traditional guild methods of Jaipur, where natural materials and human patience create a bond that outlasts generations.
1
Every piece begins with a solid Mango Wood or Teak frame, chosen for its durability and sustainability. Simultaneously, we ethically source camel bone—a byproduct of natural causes—which is cleaned and sun-bleached to achieve a pristine ivory hue.
2
Hand-Carving the Elements
There are no lasers here. Master artisans use small, hand-held chisels to carve the raw bone into thousands of specific shapes—delicate petals, intricate leaves, or sharp geometric tiles—based on your chosen design.
3
Chipping the Negative Space
Unlike modern resin methods, the traditional way involves "excavating" the wood. The artisan traces the pattern onto a solid Shisham or Mango wood frame and meticulously chips away shallow grooves into which each bone piece will be perfectly nested.
4
Natural Binding & Inlaying
Each bone segment is dipped into a natural binding agent—traditionally a mixture of lime and organic glue—and tapped into its corresponding groove. This "flush-set" method ensures the bone becomes a structural part of the wood itself.
5
Hand-Leveling & Buffing
Once set, the entire surface is hand-planed and sanded with fine stones to ensure the bone and wood are perfectly level. It is finished with a coat of natural wax or oil, highlighting the deep contrast between the organic bone and the rich wood grain.
